A Trip to LLangollen - Wales, United Kingdom

Christmas 2015 was a very different affair for us, as we spent it in the lovely, scenic and historical Welsh town of Llangollen.

Llangollen has been going for several centuries, and has the distinction of have had the then Princess Victoria, visiting it.

We stayed in the rustic but famous The Royal Hotel, which dated back to the 13th century, and fronts part of the impressive Rive Dee, and the centuries old bridge which runs across the river at right angles to the hotel. As well as being a favourite amongst the tourists, The River Dee is also a big attraction for Kayak enthusiasts.

About 2 miles from the hotel, the visitor is able to access the Chain Bridge Hotel, by taking the scenic route of walking along the Llangollen canal, in a north westernly direction from the Town.

During the season, interested visitors are able to take the regular canal boats which ply the canal, including trips across the Pontcysytlle Aqueduct, going east of Llangollen.  As the boats were not running during our visit, we had to make the journey by car to Pontcysyllte to see the Aqueduct, which conveys the story of an impressive piece of late 18th Century engineering.

While we were in Llangollen, we spent an enjoyable evening at the Dee Side Cafe, having a delicious Italian meal. Like The Royal Hotel, The Dee Side Cafe is nestled against the River Dee, with alfresco equipment.

If you happen to be within a reasonable travelling distance to Llangollen, or is otherwise minded to visit it, chances are that you will find it worth your while! Check it out!
