Let The Fighting Halts

Today the people of Syria, especially those who remain living in that, currently, tragic country, are hoping, probably against hope, that the anticipated temporary ceasefire between the Syrian Government and the 'moderate rebel groups' will take place as planned, and will hold.

As ceasefires go, nothing is certain until it occurs, and even if the ceasefire does take place - which I hope it will do - is could begin in an ad hoc and peace meal fashion, especially as the fighting between the Government forces and Al Nusra and Daesh is expected to continue.  It is to be hope that the Government will not take advantage of the continuing war between it and Al Nusra and Daesh, to target the so-called 'moderate rebel forces.'  At the same time, it is to be hoped that the 'moderate rebel forces' will not use the ceasefire to align themselves with the 'extremists' and Jihadists to continue their battles with the Government forces.

Another danger to the expected ceasefire is the likelihood of elements of the rebel forces using it to infiltrate Government-held areas of Syria to carry out acts of terror, either during the ceasefire or after it.

Quite clearly, the situation is very uncertain, and, while we should all hope that something positive and constructive will come out of the process - even if it is not great - even if it is a relative failure, it should not lead the involved parties to give up. The only alternative option for Syria and her people would be continuing destruction and desolation.

Such being the case, may the good will of all people desirous of peace and prosperity, flow abundantly in favour of the people of Syria, and help this process of ceasefire, peace, reconciliation and rebuilding.
