Seeing the Woods For the Trees

It is, for some of us, some or most of the time, very difficult to see the woods for the trees. In other words, we become or are too used to having only the singular or narrow perspective, to be able to see the wider picture.

This way of thinking about and interacting with the external world does not necessarily mean that the person who does it intended to be egotistical or dismissive of the views of others. It might just be the way they have evolved and learned to cope with conflicting situations. The things or views which they find difficult to take on board or assimilate, they tend to dismiss or deny. While those which or in co congruence with their mind set are used to reinforce their world view.
To the extent that this argument has validity, it would seem to me that we have to be mindful of the fact that, none of us are always the tallest or the smartest amongst the people who comprise the 'woods' in which we live and interact with the world.

Therefore, the beginning of wisdom, for us, is for us to begin to understand how those around us perceive and think of us, and for us to be able to have a more empathic relationship as a result.
