Both rain and Sun is needed to give such beauty and colour to our lives

t was not much later yesterday that I sat down to write a post
extolling the beauty and satisfaction I was feeling about the gloriously sunny
day we were having in our part of the world. I also recall that I commented on
how the heavens had opened up two days before, and the Rain God showered us
with torrents of rain which did caused some flooding, through which I and
others had to cautiously drive through.

nd here we are again, about 24 hours after yesterday's lovely
weather, with me looking through my window again, but, this time there is no
Sun to be seen high in the sky, no blue sky and uncomfortable humidity.
Instead, it is all about the rain, falling at first heavily, then more softly,
before easing up, stopping and, starting again. It is not as torrential as it was on Saturday, but it has been heavy, and the grey overcast sky is
portentious of probably much more to fall.

ne has to be or should be philosophical about the weather, be it
rain, sun or snow. After all, it is as natural for the rain to fall as it is
natural for the Sun to shine in their given time, and both are beautiful in
their own way. If the Sun God is happy and pleased then given the specific
eco-system or climatic conditions, it burns us with its heat. Similarly, if the
Rain God is happy, given the appropriate eco-system and climatic conditions, it
will rain night and day until its waters are all used up, or the winds blow it
somewhere else. If neither are happy, then we might have neither rain or Sun,
resulting in parched, drought-afflicted lands and water shortage, as California
and many regions in Africa are experiencing.

eflecting on all this rain which we are, in our part of the world,
being blessed, or, as some would perceive it, cursed with, I have to spare a
thought for the unfortunate people of Alberta, Canada, where a massive
wild-fire has been consuming vast areas of land and destroying everything or
most things - flora and fauna - in its path. And then I ask myself; 'how nice
it would be if some or all of this rain could have been diverted to
Alberta?

ut such are the fortuitous tendencies of the weather, that
it does not discriminate in bestowing its blessings, or curse, on people or
places. Once the eco-system and climatic conditions exist, they will determine
whether it is to be the Sun or Rain which has the greatest hold; irrespective
of what the people would find most beneficial at any given time.

he weather is like the distribution of wealth within and between
nations, with adverse climatic conditions and weather tending to concentrate
more on that proportion of the world's population who are less equipped to
contend with it. This might be partly because they have to resort more to using
their natural resources, such as cutting down their trees and not replacing
them, and the increasing demands from increasing population.

ake the best of the weather you are having; if you cannot control
or influence it.
