So, this is the second and last part of yesterday's 'A Thought for Now', in which I contemplated the matter of millions of people of different religious faiths, living the lives which they believe and/or have been, effectively, conditioned into believing their gods want them to live.
In that post, I cited what could be seen as a contradiction, in that, despite thousands of years of worshipping the gods, the utopia which humans aspire towards, remain more elusive than ever. So much so that many of the ancient sages or scribes and prophets have sought to address by proffering the theory that paradise can only be achieved after the faithful departs from this life. A proposition which is not dissimilar from the question of the existence of the 'living gods', since neither of them have ever been proven.
So, now, imagine this. Imagine a world free of all religious faiths; a world in which each person is only differentiate or undifferentiated by virtue of his/her common and shared humanity.
Imagine a world where people are not subjected to religious beliefs or doctrines which place one person above the other or ascribe some divine preference to one group of humans above another.
Imagine a world in which religions are not used to marginalise the role of one gender while elevating that of the other.
Imagine a world in which the gods and religions are not being used to 'validate' and 'legitimise' the power of some humans who seek to dominate other humans.
Imagine a world in which humans are not able to use religions and religious beliefs to give expression to their psychotic and/or evil desires - such as Jim Jones, who was responsible to death of over 900 people in Guyana.
Imagine, if you will, a world which does not allow men to seek to use religions and their gods mobilise 'the faithful' to fight make wars on and oppress their neighbours, because the world is free of all religions.
And so, imagine a world in which women are perceived and treated as equal to their menfolk and do not have to defer to them on the basis of their maleness or masculinity, or supposed closeness to the gods.
Imagine a world in which young girls are exploited or treated less favourable than their male counterparts, because society perceives them as inferior to their male compatriots.
Imagine, if you will, a world in which young girls and teenagers are not having their genetalia excruciatingly mutilated, because of their male compatriots obsession with virgins, and with their own selfish sexual desires.
If you will, imagine a world in which women do not have to deny their own individuality and desire for self-expression, in order to comply with any religious prescription about how they should or should not dress.
Imagine, if you will, a world in which puny and manipulative men, do not have the religious cloak under which to hide their desire to dominate women and other men.
Image, then, if you will, a world which has freed itself from the oppressive and unaccountable yoke of religious faiths.
Imagine a world in which there are no allusions to the gods, and what they are purported to have told those who claimed to have been spoken to by the gods.
Imagine a world freed from the need to perpetuate probably the biggest lies in human history; that there is a god or gods who require humans to live this or that way.
Imagine, if you will, a world in which humans of all genders can live their lives freely, without being oppressed on the basis of racism, sexism, religious persuasion, or ethnicity, and are able to make their full contributions toward the development of society?
Imagine, if you will, a world in which Isis/Daesh, Al Queda, et al could not have existed, because there is no religious cloak to give rise to them, or for them to use to hide their political quest for power?
Imagine a world in which Europe and the United States would not be fearful of Muslims, because there would be no Muslims, Christians, Jews, Sikhs, Hindus, Taoists, et al, and there would be no religious conflict to drive people out of their countries of origin.
Yes, imagine such a world, and how live 'heaven', like 'paradise', it might be, if only humans were able to give up their fear of their imaginary gods and free themselves of their self-deceptive religious beliefs, and live the like free beings, taking responsibility for their own fate. Instead of relinquishing it to the gods, who are just as powerless as their believers.
In living your life, ask yourself this; can humans ever be really free while we relinquish, or pretend to relinquish our fate to the gods, whose very existence, like the veracity of their assumed decrees, has not been, nor probably can ever be proven?
Endeavour to enjoy your living and give no heed to what the gods are purported to have told the selected or self-selected amongst the ancients.
If a person has never seen or heard any of the 'living gods', and has never met anybody who has seen or heard any of them, then, on what basis should such a person believe in them, while remaining a rational being?
