AN IMAGINARY CONVERSATION WITH GOD. PART 6

Many look to the heavens for their god, when it would be more revealing and profitable for them to focus on themselves and fellow humans, and the here and now!

T.: Can I ask, G, why did you refer to “us”, in reference to yourself and apparently some other person or deity, in Chapter 1, verse 26 of Genesis, when you decided to make man? You saying “let us…” makes no sense to me, as you had been referred to only in the singular previously. Do you or did you have a companion god with you?

G.: Look, T, you have read the Bible, and, if the ‘creationists’ are to be believed about the things and powers they have attributed and ascribed to me, then I am capable of doing anything, including taking on the persona of a “I” or a “us.” I also know that you have read an English version of Quran. You will know, therefore, that the Bible refers to me in the third person, and not the first. There is no mention of me being recorded as having told anybody this or that. Rather, there are mention of people saying I said this or that or having told them this or that.

In other words, I, whom the creationists have ascribed great powers to, have not authenticated any of their reputed holy books or records of what they say about me. Neither have they, taking it upon themselves to speak for me, have, through them, used me to give authentication to their stories.

Now, regarding the matter as to whether I am singular or plural, whether  there is only me, one god, or ‘us’, more than one god, I will say this. The Christians speak of the ‘holy trinity’, which they define as ‘The Holy Ghost’, Christ the Son of God, and ‘God the Father.’

Do the ancients continue to imprison our intellect and blight our lives with their tales of the gods?

Now, using their narrative, I could tell you that it was this concept of ‘the holy trinity’ that the unknown narrator of Genesis was referring to, and that Christ the Son of God, had been there at the very beginning when I reputedly created the world. And that it is to that fact that reference was made to “us”, instead of “I.” Of course, if I were to make that argument, it would weaken my earlier argument that I created Adam, Eve and the earth and heavens because I was lonely.

Consequently, I am not able to give you a definitive answer as to why there is this reference to “us” in the Book of Genesis. It might have been that the narrator made a mistake, or deliberately intended to speak of more than one god. After all, T, am I not the creation of the creationists, and are they not the ones who would be better placed to answer this question? Of course, with the original author and narrator of the Book of Genesis not being alive, it is difficult to see how this matter can be clarified.

You know, T, it might very well just have been what you humans call a ‘typo’; a mistake made by the scribe who alleged what is said in the account you refer to.

Anyway, T, does it really matters wheter the gods of you humans are one, or more than one? Do the Jews not claim their own god, or claim me as their own? As do the Muslims, who refers to me as Allah? As do the Christians, who also place their own emphasis on the things that suit their perspective?

And how is it that you humans are always fighting, when your gods clearly are not? As I have said, in the end it makes no difference, because you humans have become very skillful at self-deception, and putting your own words into the mouths of your gods. Which is, as might be expected, since you have also created us, or me.

T.: Thanks for that, G. Are you actually saying we humans have created you and place our thoughts, our desires and hopes and fears in your mouth/s?

G.: Yes, T, that is exactly what I am saying. I am saying that I did not create you humans; it is you who have created us and then ‘have us creating you’; at least, according to the ‘creationists.’ You humans, it seems, have convinced yourselves that the gods need you, when it is clearly the case that it is you who needs, or, have convinced yourselves that you need us. Think, T; how much better it would be if you humans did not choose to divide us and make us more than one, probably to create schism within us, in much the same way as you have divided yourselves and take sides against yourselves.

T.: Ok, G. Thanks for your words of true wisdom.

To be continued.
