LEWIS HAMILTON, NICO ROSBERG AND DANIEL RICCIARDO - CONGRATULATIONS IN ORDER!

The Spa-Francorchamps Grand Prix was a very eventful race for various reasons. For Nico Rosberg, it was eventful in that it has given him his first win here, and, for Lewis Hamilton, it has enabled him to make a very good recovery from taking his penalty position by starting in the penultimate position on the grid, and finishing the race in P2 position.

I had suggested that, if the gods did not showing him a great deal of favour, Lewis might have finished in P5 or P6.  The fact that Lewis Hamilton rubbished my attempt at predicting what might have been, is really no great feat on his part, since, in another time and place, he might well have ended up winning the race. On this occasion he was not able to do so, partly with Nico Rosberg having a faultless race, and Ricciardo being as resolute a racer as he has become.

Kimi and Verstappen, on the other hand, did not had the race they had hoped to have, and both of them failed to maintain the positions they earned in the Qualifying; to their chagrin. It was also noticeable that Verstappen's tactic to spoil Kimi's attempts to overtake him is continuing, with the risk of both having a major collision in the future clearly on the cards.

The race was also notable for the number of crashes and collisions which occurred, including one which resulted in an injury to one of the racers.

And so we have experienced the first race of the second half of the Formula One season, which has, amongst other things, resulted in Lewis Hamilton's Championship points lead over his team mate reduced by just over half what it was before, as look forward to the next race at the Italian Grand Prix.

This next race will be the first to provide both Rosberg and Lewis with the opportunity to resume their battle for the 2016 Championship, and which, hopefully, will enable more overtaking battles, such as we have seen with Vettel, Kimi, Verstappen, Alonso, et al.

Bring it on!
