A new ray of hope for the British Labour Party, if it can bury the hatchet and unite around a common purpose.
Well, if it should be made known, I did not support Jeremy Corbyn to win the recently held leadership election which the British Labour Party's members have just held. Although I knew that he would have been the likely winner.
The reason why I did not support JC, although I had earlier done so, was his striking failure to bring order and unity to the ranks of the Labour Party. Because of his failure to articulate a credible, inspirational and effective programme and campaign against the ruling Conservative Government. Quite simply, the old JC - because, yes, one has to have the hope that it is going to the new and effective JC who we are now going to be seeing - failed to command the respect and loyalty of both his PLP members, a significant proportion of constituent Labour Party members and the general electorate.
He had also failed to court and use and exploit the popular media, leaving them to use and exploit him. If you cannot secure the respect and loyalty of your party, your troop, you cannot reasonably expect that the general electorate is going to find you an attractive and irresistible option for forming the next government and ruling over or governing them.
Those were the reasons why I had become frustrated with Jeremy Corbyn's leadership and end up not supporting him.
Let peace breaks out with the Labour Party!
So, Congratulations, Jeremy, and good luck in succeeding in doing what you should have done already. Seize the opportunity with both hands and prudence.
In the title of this post, I made reference to the 'chameleonisation' of contemporary politics. This is as a result of the relative similarity I see between the fate and fortunes of both Jeremy Corbyn and America's Donald Trump. Donald Trump and his supporters have, in my view, made him into being a pariah amongst those of us who would normally be referred to as 'decent people.'
We found some of his most controversial views about groups of people, Muslims, Mexicans, et al, objectionable and despicable, and we attack him ruthlessly for it. Yet, within the life time of the current presidential campaign, we are, with some disbelief, watching the transformation, almost the adoration of Donald Trump; not only by the Trumpists, but also by previously apparently 'decent people.'
The hand of friendship and united only has meaning when extended between the living.
Now, Jeremy Corbyn, notwithstanding the distrust with which we should approach all politicians, is clearly not a politician who has, or, indeed, one suspect, would go to the miasmic depth to which Donald Trump has descended, and is now crawling out off. However, for all intents and purpose, Jeremy Corbyn has been 'trumpised' by the British media and probably most of the British political establishment. Like Michael Foot before him, they have declared him politico non gratia.
Prudence demands that we review an issue and our views and conclusions about it, after there has been a significant change in or relating to it. That we should not stick to our original perspectives regardless of what has happened since we formed them. That we are capable of learning, growth and making changes to our thinking, attitudes and actions.
Getting there together!
A political leader does not have to be naturally a great leader; it is the unity and support of the people he has the privilege to lead, which will make him/her great!
So, now is the time to give the apparently new Jeremy Corbyn a second bite at the cherry. The British people deserve it.
