THE PHILIPPINES - FROM MARCUS TO DUTERTE; DOES A PEOPLE GETS THE LEADERS THEY DESERVE?

The people of the Philippines have not, it seems, been well served by many of their leaders, even though there is the irony of all of these leaders, from Marcos to the current President, Duterte, having massive popular support amongst them.

Consider, for example, the Pharoahic former President Fendinand Marcos, that most self-indulgent and egocentric of despots, who acted as if the country and its people were there to serve him, instead of him serving the country and its people. A man - because, irrespective of what he and Duterte might think of themselves, they are no more, athough most probably less than, human - was apparently venerated by great numbers of Philippians.

And now we have President Duterte, an apparent homophobic President, whose main pastime, for reasons probably still unknow, has made it his mission to kill as many Philippians as possible, who are involved in or believed to be associated with the drug trade. Not being satisfied with pursuing this goal, it appears that President Duterte has become extremely annoyed and angry with criticisms from the Americans, who have been allies of the Philippians for many decades; to the point of inferring that both the American President, and their ambassador to the Philippines are the sons of "whores."

Now, how undiplomatic can you, as a President of a country get, more than that? Clearly, this raises profound questions about President Duterte's fitness to be President. Of even greater concern is the fact that, not only has he insulted his country's greatest and longest ally, but he has also disgraced the Philippines and Philippians.

~All of which raises the question: how is it that men such as Marcos and Duterte rise or fall to the point of becoming President of the Philippines? What is it about the people of that country why self-serving megalomaniacs like Marcos and Duterte are able to be elected leaders of the country?

This is clearly something which the people of that country need to contemplate, as it seems to have become common practice for men of ill-repute to gain the highest office of the country. It also begs the question, should or can Duterte be impeached for having wrought this terrible and most probably, unprecedented disgrace on the people of the Philippines and  their country?

The man is clearly behaving like he is a thug; a gang leader, and is not worthy of holding the Presidency; unless those who have voted for him see themselves and their country as not deserving better than what he is offering.
