But I did not die, most likely because fate had not decreed that I should have died on that occasion. So I can now tell of my misfortune, knowing how easily I might have violently fallen off the Cliff.
But, as humans, we do value hour period of temporary immortality, and, at times, might even indulge in or be able to live as if we are permanent immortals.
Unless, that is, if we are fated to be suffering from some terminal physical condition, such as a disease.
Or we are under a sentence of death, due to some criminal act by others, or due process of law.
When we are young, we are more likely to be successful our assumption of a state of immorality.
And so it was, that as I sat at the table at my/our dear friend's Ninety-Fifth Birthday Party, did my mind wondered and took flight in contemplating how us humans are living on borrowed time.
As I, probably imprecisely and inaccurately, endeavour to perceive of the world through the 'mind's eyes' of others around me.
Except for only one child under the age of 12, non of the other guests were under the age of 40.
And most of those who, like our dear friend whose Birthday Party it was, were of Afro-Caribbean origin.
