It is important that I should endeavour to be mindful that it is not only her who needs an appropriate philosophical tendency to get her through this final phase of her life. It is also me, and others who interact with her.
I need to be aware that, like all other humans, all other living creatures, all of us really do have, by virtue of the fact that we are alive, a death sentence.
And when we, through the functionality of our bodies, and the increasing loss of control over our intellectual and cognitive functioning, lose our capacity to interact with and enjoy the world.
When our legs are no longer capable of taking us to the places we have been before and enjoyed, or to the places we aspire to go to.
When our bodily functioning becomes significantly less effective and efficient in its functioning, because of aging and/or diseased organs.
When aches and pains become a daily, hourly or constant norm.
Then might we begin to feel trapped in our bodies, as our world and ability to interact with it becomes smaller, and our frustration and dissatisfaction with it increases and becomes magnified.
To be continued!
