'Us humans, like other living creatures, live and then die, and there is nothing beyond our deaths, as far as self-consciousness goes. Whatever value we give to our living and to others, do not, for us, have any impact beyond our death. Make the best of your life and do not waste it on the gods, who exist only in our imaginations.'
To behold the happiness of other humans, because they are feeling safe, secure, and are able to express themselves, without causing harm to others. Is not something which would displeases any but the most malevolent of the gods.
Which would, of itself, make such a god unworthy of being served by compassionate humans.
Because, just as how it is said that a people 'deserve the leaders they have', so, also, do men make their gods into their own image. With evil and hateful men, making their god or gods like themselves.
So, coming back to the Shamima Begums of our world. They have made their mistakes, as the restless and aspiring to 'make a difference' young people all over the world and throughout the ages have tended to do.
As we, who were once young, might also have done, or wanted to do, in our youth. In our most impressionistic and probably gullible phase of life.
So, let us not respond to the Shamimas who have aspired, probably with different degrees of sincerity, to return to the fold of the more humane societies that they have turned or attempted to turn their backs on.
To be continued!
