At the sametime, we are mortified by the awareness that, the 'Brexit means Brexit, so just get on with it, at any cost', approach of the more fanatical Brexiteers.
Would probably be just as unsuccessful. But definitely more destructive and costly.
So, how is this poisoning of the British body politic, and, indeed, that of the other affected countries to be treated?
Some people who are in favour of Britain leaving the European Union are motivated by the equivalent of a religious faith or belief.
They believe that it is the 'right thing' for the British nation, and that it is an objective which is worthwhile paying any cost for.
These are not people who are impacted, or, rather, likely to be persuaded the force of the opposing argument, that the price of the country jumping the SS European Union at any cost.
