The most ardent and uncompromising advocate and warriors seem to be telling us that we Must stop doing all the things which we are doing, which are to a greater or smaller extent, damaging our Planet and imperilling our very existence.
And that we Must stop these activities Now. But how can humans stop most or all of these activities; Now?
When many of these activities are things we have been doing for decades or hundreds of years?
When some of them took generations to be put into place and improved over time?
Can a ship which began a journey across the ocean, using coal for fuel, change to a new source of fuel in mid-ocean, without first stopping at an appropriate port to convert, if it can, its fuel source?
And so it is with our response to the Climate Change Challenge.
That people, us, will not simply drop what we are doing and wait for better alternatives to be invented and developed.
If the call for change continues to out-pace the human capacity to make the change, it will lead to frustration, opposition and rejection.
The people who are cutting down the forests and woodlands to make timber and plant crops and farm cattle, will continue to do so.
While the global society is unwilling or unable to provide them with a viable alternative method of earning the money they need to feed and care for themselves and their families.
Or until their own nation and the global society declare them 'enemies of the people' and kill or incarcerate them, if they were to persist in their understandable, but still planetarily destructive behaviours.
Similarly, with respect to the owners and customers of the manufacturing and industrial enterprises which are poisoning Earth's rivers and atmosphere.
To be continued!
